Let's know about Google's journey-
Google is the world’s most visited website. It’s even one of the most-searched terms on Bing.
The word “Google” comes from the term “googol,” which represents the number one followed by a hundred zeroes. The creators chose this name to reflect the vast amount of data they were searching through.
Google's journey began in 1995 when Larry Page and Sergey Brin met while working on their PhDs at Stanford University. The two students originally named their company "BackRub" in their dorm room.
Google was officially launched on September 4, 1998, by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both Ph.D. students at Stanford University. They created the search engine, initially named “BackRub,” which evolved from a concept developed in 1996 with assistance from Scott Hassan and Alan Steremberg.
The search engine gained immense popularity and attracted investments, leading to the incorporation of Google Inc. in Menlo Park, California, right in Susan Wojcicki’s garage.
Google swiftly became the dominant web-based search engine, expanding its reach and moving offices until it settled in Mountain View in 2003.
The company went public in 2004, experiencing remarkable growth and establishing itself as one of the world’s largest media companies.
In 2015, Google became a subsidiary of Alphabet, Inc.
FAQ ABOUT GOOGLE
Why is it called Google?
They called this search engine Backrub. Soon after, Backrub was renamed Google (phew). The name was a play on the mathematical expression for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros and aptly reflected Larry and Sergey's mission “to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
